The Brighton Charter Interact club is co-sponsored by the Brighton Early and the Brighton Rotary clubs. The club began in 2002 and has worked on many community service projects, as well as having been leaders at their school in assisting with various events such as school field days, Prom, manning the concessions at the basketball and volleyball games and the like. Several Interact students spend at least one or two afternoons a week reading to the Head Start children in the same building below. They have a 2 mile stretch of Hwy 7 east of the school from Pheasant Ridge to I-76 that they are responsible for and clean at least quarterly. In the past years they have donated money to Meals on Wheels, the Adams County Humane Society, His Hands Ministries food bank, Almost Home and now CASA. The Interact members held several bake sales, car washes, and even wrapped Christmas packages one year to raise funds to purchase hats for a hat tree at a doctor's office in Denver associated with Children's Hospital. The hat tree is for those children that are being treated for cancer and they can change hats each time they come in for their visit with the doctor. The Interact members have been working very hard this school year on developing a plan to upgrade the service organization signs on the north and south ends of town on Hwy 85. They designed a new sign and contacted all the service clubs that are currently represented on the existing signs. Teams of Interact members and a Rotary team leader met with all the service clubs to present their idea and ask for suupport. They then met with the City Council Study Session in April and presented their idea for the upgrade of these entry signs into Brighton. After their presentation, the city came up with their suggestion for the sign upgrades, the one you saw yesterday. It will now be a joint effort with the city to complete this project next school year.
On an international level, last year the Interact members donated $750 to the DTC Rotary club to help purchase bio-sand water filters for families in the Dominican Republic. These water filters can last for 50 years and can provide clean, safe drinking water for over 600 people. This year the Brighton Charter Interactors donated money to the district Interact project, Heifer International. The district goal was to raise $5000.00 to purchase an Ark for a village in a third world country. The goal was reached with our Interactors donating $615 and the sponsoring Rotary clubs matching their contribution to total $1230.00.
